Springfield, IL – The IL Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement on the continued lies and half-truths coming from the YMCA in the aftermath of being called out for their outrageous discrimination against 16-year-old swimmer Abbigail Wheeler

“The YMCA continues to change their story instead of simply admitting the truth of what happened to Abbigail Wheeler at their facility. We along with other organizations have asked for information about the incident involving Wheeler multiple times. We also asked over a two-week period for information regarding any internal investigation on their part and all of these requests have been ignored. Now they have publicly stated in the State Journal Register that there was an investigation and a written record when there simply has been no evidence such an investigation ever took place.

Instead of protecting themselves and their outrageous policies that allow biological males in the girls’ locker room, we call on the YMCA to do the right thing and protect the girls in their care by not allowing biological males in the women’s locker room. It is time for the YMCA to stop spreading lies and misinformation about Abbigail and her family and to apologize for their gross negligence and failure to protect young girls.”

The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Oakland), chairman; Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), vice-chairman; Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich); Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville); Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur); Jed Davis (R-Newark) and David Friess (R-Red Bud). The members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are members of the Illinois General Assembly who are advocating for limited government, lower taxes and accountability and integrity in government.
