IL Freedom Caucus calls for repeal of weapons ban as thousands gather for Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day

Springfield, IL – As thousands of Second Amendment supporters gathered in Sprinfield, the Illinois Freedom Caucus renewed their call for the repeal of Governor JB Pritzker’s weapons ban legislation which is a clear violation of the Constitutional rights of honest citizens.

Today is the annual Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD) and the Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement:

“Owning a firearm is a right guaranteed by our Constitution. The constant attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights are a blatant assault on the principles underlying our Constitution. If the government can take away one right, then they can take away all of our rights.

It is not surprising that the same Governor who used the excuse of the pandemic to lock down our economy, close churchs, schools and businesses and push for mask and vaccine mandates would also be the architect of an unconstitutional gun registry and weapons ban law. The lack of regard for our Constitutional rights seems to be the calling card of this power-hungry administration.

In the end, the weapons ban will not stand up to court scrutiny. It will be rendered null and void but our state’s leaders could save taxpayers money by repealing this outrageous law. They could avoid defending costly civil lawsuits when the law is finally overturned and they could respect our Constitutional rights instead of trampling them. We call on the leaders of the House and the Senate to repeal the weapons ban and assure the honest citizens of our state that Illinois will protect their Constitutional rights.”

The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro), chairman; Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), vice-chairman; Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich); Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville); Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur); Jed Davis (R-Newark) and David Friess (R-Red Bud). The members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are members of the Illinois General Assembly who are advocating for limited government, lower taxes and accountability, and integrity in government.
